Russell, Don't be too concerned about tipping in heavier winds. You will really be suprised at how stable it is. The only time I nearly dumped it was during light winds in the marina and I was caught be a rouge gust. As it began to go over I ended up standing on the opposite inside wall and turned around and held onto the side rail. As soon as the wind "dumped" from the sail it wenby Joe - sailmfg
Here is a picture of the plug I put at the front of the cockpit. It's the same as at the rear of the boat. I got it at Walmart and yes the hole is required. This is the only way you can drain the front section, especially since you have the new and improved non-floor like myself. Your bailer looks a little strange to me, here is what I have. Yours looks like it would catch juby Joe - sailmfg
This is a test...... Woo Hoo!!! Thanks!by Joe - sailmfg
Here is how I post images to my posts..... First go into your account through the "Control Center" in the upper right of your screen. Click on "Edit my Files" Upload your images here. To place an image into a post, I open the picture I want in another window and copy and paste the web address into the post. I've seen where people have images show in their posts wby Joe - sailmfg
I have to agree with Curtvk, I pull my Sidewinder with a 4 cyl Mitsubishi Eclipse.by Joe - sailmfg
I dont know if this link will work if your not a "Friend" of mine but here is a link to a video of my Sidewinder from yesterday. The winds were anywhere from light to about 5mph. I actually had to use my "armstrong" boat motor (aka paddle) to get back to shore. I found this little camera for sale a while back. It's a Kodak Zm1. Only paid $30 at HH Gregg and it's wateby Joe - sailmfg
I just looked at the Copperhead rigging, it looks like you wont have the eyelet to run the line through. I dont understand how you would raise the centerboard without this. It may be something to add during your refurbish. The Sidewinder rigging shows this pretty well.by Joe - sailmfg
Hey Tony, Take a look at the Sidewinder centerboard rigging. It sounds like it is set up the same way. Mine has two set of bushings on it at the top. When it's in it doesn't angle towards the rear like you describe. I think when it's all the way down the front is vertical and the back of the centerboard agles forward. When I sail, I normally only drop it about half way down. I have noticedby Joe - sailmfg
Here is what I did for my day off. I guess I got on the water at about 1pm and finally got back in at 5:30. I traveled about 18 miles total. But the wind was real screwy and not anywhere near what the weather was calling for. The best I could do was about 6-7mph in short bursts. I’m getting used to using my hiking straps for my feet too. You can follow my route if you start at my boat. Tby Joe - sailmfg
The GPS app only tracked my speed. I traced my route on Google Earth using my memory to share with my father. He loves sailing but sadlly his health has prevented him from sharing in my trips. This is my way of showing him where I've been.by Joe - sailmfg
Well the high temps and humidity finally broke in middle TN. Our high was 88 with 68% humidity, a whole lot better then last week. After work today I decided to head to the lake. Forcast was for 5mph wind out of the north. Normally this isn't very promising, but I chose to go anyway. After rigging my sidewinder, I headed out of the marina. Things were going pretty slow while exiting, but Iby Joe - sailmfg
Go to your local autoparts store and ask for a weather pack connector. You can get them from 1 to about 8 pins. Napa should have some in stock.by Joe - sailmfg
Congrats on your new boat. Be sure and post your information and some pics so we can keep these great little boats alive. I've had my Sidewinder out a few times and it's funny when people ask, "What kind of boat is that?" They look be-fuddled when you say, "It's an MFG".by Joe - sailmfg
Well, today I finally got some wind. After spending all day working under a tractor in a field, I was able to sneak out an hour early. I told my boss, "I'm headed to the lake." When I got there I rigged the mast, jib and rudder. I held off rigging the mainsail since a storm was brewing from the afternoon heat. I watched it for 15-20 minutes on the radar and seen it was beginning toby Joe - sailmfg
If you chose to do the foam repair on a hole, you will have to experiment with different density foams. I only redrilled holes in the foam on the mast socket, but not the heeling straps. I relocated the mounting for these. Check out this link...... It has some downloadable files for some very good information. I actually had them send me copies of them, but I'm not sure they still doby Joe - sailmfg
Thanks cas, I had to laugh when I read the sweaty glove comment. Been there many times. I'm glad I was able to help you get inspired. When I was creating the post, I wasn't sure my work would be of any help to anyone. I'm honored to contribute to something that could very well go on for years to come.by Joe - sailmfg
I made it out to my boat today, here are some pictures of the marina and the cradles I made for the mast and boom. You can see in the last picture, I found some carpet to put underneath to protect it from the rocks. This coming Tuesday will be my next trip out, wish me luck!! To get an idea of the lake I have it on, you can look up Percy Priest Lake at this link.....by Joe - sailmfg
Here's the update of how today went...... After fillling out what seemed like enough paperwork to buy a firearm, I was free to rig my boat and finally put her in the water. For being only the third time rigging it, it went pretty good. Or so I thought. Using my wife's 03 Eclipse, I backed it down the ramp. After unstrapping it and floating it off the trailer, I pulled it to the side of theby Joe - sailmfg
Well, tomorrow is the big day. I am finally going to put my Sidewinder in the water. No it's not complete yet, but it should be functional enough. I'll post some pics as well as let everyone know how it goes when I get home. Wish me luck!! Here are some pics from last summer's work.....by Joe - sailmfg
That answers alot of questions I had about my boat last summer. Someone had cut out the floor and discarded it.by Joe - sailmfg
I may have to look into that when I decide to flip mine over. I have similar hairline cracks on the underside, but I plan to sail it this summer as is. All last summer was spent rebuilding the floor, so I'm ready. Is that an AC vacuum pump your using?by Joe - sailmfg
WOW!! That looks like what I should've done to mine. I have a question about your vacuum bagging..... How do you keep it from cooking the bag? Anytime I sealed it with a piece of plastic it would get hot enough to nearly melt the plastic. I mixed it the same as normal using the metering pump system.by Joe - sailmfg
It looks like the forum developer has a "Spam Hurdles Module" available to cut down on this. Not sure what version Paul is running though.by Joe - sailmfg
Hey Skeet, Check the Sidewinder manuals for the roller furling jib mechanism. I was surprised that all the parts can be bought at your local home improvement store. For the most part it's just two pieces of conduit, one inside the other. The jib is cut a bit different where it attachs though.by Joe - sailmfg
Hey PK, I don't see any of the pics.by Joe - sailmfg
Here you go CD..... These pictures show both placements of the centerboard. I hope this helps. BTW: You got the fire started under me to get mine in the water. Unfortunately I have a bathroom to finish.by Joe - sailmfg
I meant to get out and measure the socket, but I've been busy with a remodel project all weekend. I'll try and get out there and measure it for you this week. Mine may be a bit longer because it can be setup as both a cat-rig and a sloop rig. I promise to get back with you.by Joe - sailmfg
It looks like Copperheads have the same centerboard rigging as the Sidewinder. Your boat is a bit smaller and a cat-rig, but the dimensions may be close to the same. Check the centerboard diagram in the Sidewinder section, then match these up with your dagger board socket size.by Joe - sailmfg
