Centerboard Rigging

Centerboard Rigging

I have a question regarding the rigging of the line to raise and lower the centerboard on a Sidewinder. In the photos section of this website there is a diagram of the centerboard and the description says the material is aluminum. Mine is most definitely steel (it had rust on it before I sanded it down and painted it). Therefore it is quite heavy. Rigged as described in the manual I cannot raise the centerboard by merely pulling on the line. I have to straddle the centerboard trunk and pull up with all my might.

Has anyone added additional blocks to the rigging in order to get more leverage? Any other thoughts?

Thanks

Brad.

On one of my sidewinders the original factory components were replaced with blocks as seen in the attached picture. This helps a lot.

I think it would be fairly easy to add a 2:1 purchase setup along the outside side of the centerboard slot. This would give you plenty of leverage to raise the heavy board.
